Derived Picard Groups of Finite-Dimensional Hereditary Algebras

Let A be a finite-dimensional algebra over a field k. The derived Picard group DPic _k (A) is the group of triangle auto-equivalences of D> ^b( mod A) induced by two-sided tilting complexes. We study the group DPic _k (A) when A is hereditary and k is algebraically closed. We obtain general results on the structure of DPic _k , as well as explicit calculations for many cases, including all finite and tame representation types. Our method is to construct a representation of DPic _k (A) on a certain infinite quiver ^irr. This representation is faithful when the quiver of A is a tree, and then DPic _k (A) is discrete. Otherwise a connected linear algebraic group can occur as a factor of DPic _k (A). When A is hereditary, DPic _k (A) coincides with the full group of k-linear triangle auto-equivalences of D^b( mod A). Hence, we can calculate the group of such auto-equivalences for any triangulated category D equivalent to D^b( mod A. These include the derived categories of piecewise hereditary algebras, and of certain noncommutative spaces introduced by Kontsevich and Rosenberg.     

Multiple positive solutions for a Dirichlet problem involving critical Sobolev exponent

In this paper, we study the decomposition of the Nehari manifold via the combination of concave and convex nonlinearities. Furthermore, we use this result and the Ljusternik-Schnirelmann category to prove that the existence of multiple positive solutions for a Dirichlet problem involving critical Sobolev exponent.     

Track Extensions of Categories and Cohomology

We introduce the notion of n-fold track extensions of a category C by a natural system D and prove that such extensions represent classes in the cohomology of C with coefficients in D introduced by Baues–Wirsching. This generalizes a result of Huebschmann on the cohomology of groups.     

Analysis of ordered categorical data from repeated measurements assuming a quantitative latent variable

Summary The purpose of the present paper is to propose an analytical method for ordered categorical responses obtained from a repeated measurement/longitudinal experiment. The ordered categorical scale is assumed to be a manifestation of a latent quantitative variable. A linear model is assumed for location parameters of the underlying distributions. Weighted least square method is applied to parameter estimation and subsequent analysis. Two data sets are analyzed to show several aspects of analysis by the proposed model and to discuss comparative characteristics of analysis compared with earlier analysis. A mention is made for a computer software program for the proposed model.     

Completeness properties of the pseudocompact-open topology on <Emphasis Type="Italic">C</Emphasis>(<Emphasis Type="Italic">X</Emphasis>)

This is a study of the completeness properties of the space C _ps (X) of continuous real-valued functions on a Tychonoff space X, where the function space has the pseudocompact-open topology. Multiplicity of solutions of a zero mass nonlinear equation on a Riemannian manifold

The relation between the number of solutions of a nonlinear equation on a Riemannian manifold and the topology of the manifold itself is studied. The technique is based on Ljusternik-Schnirelmann category and Morse theory.

Fundamental groups of manifolds with <Emphasis Type="Italic">S</Emphasis><Superscript>1</Superscript>-category 2

A closed topological n-manifold M ⁿ is of S ¹-category 2 if it can be covered by two open subsets W ₁,W ₂ such that the inclusions W _i → M ⁿ factor homotopically through maps W _i → S ¹ → M ⁿ . We show that the fundamental group of such an n-manifold is a cyclic group or a free product of two cyclic groups with nontrivial amalgamation. In particular, if n = 3, the fundamental group is cyclic.      

Moduli stacks and invariants of semistable objects on K3 surfaces

For a K3 surface X and its bounded derived category of coherent sheaves D(X), we have the notion of stability conditions on D(X) in the sense of T. Bridgeland. In this paper, we show that the moduli stack of semistable objects in D(X) with a fixed numerical class and a phase is represented by an Artin stack of finite type over C. Then following D. Joyce's work, we introduce the invariants counting semistable objects in D(X), and show that the invariants are independent of a choice of a stability condition.
